Frequently asked questions

Is VAT included?

VAT @ 17.5% is included in all prices shown, a VAT receipt will be sent to you by return..

Where are the prices and sizes?

When you click on a door from the main pages, you will see a large door on the right and one or more small doors to the right, by clicking on one of the little doors the available sizes and prices will be displayed, you then have the option of saving your favourites to view together at a later time.

How can I search for a certain size or timber?

There is a search button on the green top bar near the crest on the right hand side, here you can select metric or imperial sizes, internal or external doors and the timber type you are looking for, if you know the code this can also be entered here.

What about the trees and air?

When buying a wooden door you can have complete confidence that you are not exhausting irreplaceable raw materials, such as bauxite used for aluminium doors, or oil for UPVC/CPL doors. Here at Kershaws we make every effort to ensure our doors are manufactured using good wood. Wherever possible all timber used for our doors is sourced from well-managed forests where more trees are planted than harvested.

Where can I view a door?

You can view many styles in our main showroom premises at Main St, Wyke, Bradford,West Yorkshire, BD12 8BN. Hundreds of styles are on show but if you have a specific door in mind please call us prior to your visit.

Can I finish my door with wax or teak oil?

We would not advise you use any type of wax or oil on your doors. When a door is manufactured the timber used has controlled moisture content, the above mentioned treatments will not seal the moisture into the door. This may allow moisture ingress or loss to occur causing your door to either swell or shrink. All of our doors differ slightly, finishing instructions are included in the packaging but MOST IMPORTANTLY read our guidelines on the reverse of your sales invoice.

What does "engineered" or "laminated" mean?

Laminated Veneered Lumber (LVL) is a method of construction that is economical with the use of natural timber resources. The main parts and rails of the door are constructed using strips/blocks of timber, which are glued and clamped together. This is then faced with timber to give the appearance that it is one solid piece. Panels may have an MDF insert to stop any chance of splitting. We find this the best method of construction by far, and will make the door more stable and much less likely to warp.

Why are items sometimes out of stock?

Every effort is made to maintain availability of all our items, but due to popularity and supply issues, some products may not always be available. We keep strong links with all our suppliers so should there be an item out of stock we can usually tell you why, along with a rough estimate when it will arrive!

What does "Pre-Hung" mean?

If you require thirty or more "door sets" we offer some door styles in a "Pre-hung" form - Which means the door will be supplied to you already in its lining with the hinges & latch/lock already fitted. This will speed up the fitting process dramatically and can also save on your labour charges. All of our Pre-hung sets are only available to order, so please allow plenty of time for delivery.

I need a fire rated door, which door shall I buy?

Your local council will specify this; many of our styles are available with a certified fire rating of either FD30 or FD60. Do not hesitate to contact us for advice on the types and styles available.

Should I book a joiner before my doors are delivered?

Absolutely Not. Always wait until your door/s is delivered prior to arranging a joiner. We have great faith in our distributors, but doors are not an easy thing to transport and complications on delivery may occur. Especially on special order items where in rare cases, problems in supply may mean the original lead time is reinstated.

Still haven't found what you’re looking for?
