Hardwoods are becoming scarce. The worlds supply is being used up, and the move to managed sustainable forests is increasing. Due to this, the majority of hardwood doors are increasingly being produced from a block construction, usually a hardwood block centre (though sometimes softwood, particle board or MDF). This is then veneered over with the final choice of timber, giving the appearance of a solid timber door, but with reduced costs and a more environmentally friendly product.
